About Olympus Atlas
An independent editorial project that treats myth, architecture, and atmospheric science as overlapping but distinct fields of evidence.
What we do
Olympus Atlas is an editorial publication operated by Olympus Atlas Cultural Review ULC, a Canadian company based in Toronto, Ontario. We publish long-form articles, reference guides, and visual essays that trace the image of Mount Olympus across three domains: the poetry and cult of ancient Greece, the engineering and material culture of its temples, and the atmospheric physics of the mountain itself.
We do not treat myth as history, or history as myth. Instead, we keep each register of evidence visible and labelled, so readers can follow a claim from its source to the page in front of them.
How we work
Source-led research
Every article begins with a specific question and moves through archaeological reports, museum object records, peer-reviewed science, and primary texts. We cite our sources in full and date every page.
Interdisciplinary desks
Content is produced by named editorial desks — Myth & Texts, Architecture & Material Culture, Earth Science — rather than by individual personalities. This keeps the focus on process and evidence.
Uncertainty stays visible
When a museum labels a figure as "Zeus or Poseidon," we preserve that qualification. We do not invent certainty where the record offers only probability.
No invented identities
Personal bylines appear only when a real contributor provides and approves their name and biography. Otherwise, accountability rests with the editorial desk that produced the work.
Editorial structure
Olympus Atlas is organised around four institutional desks, each responsible for a distinct body of evidence:
- Myth & Texts Desk — Epic poetry, hymns, votive inscriptions, and the later reception of Greek narrative in literature and film.
- Architecture & Material Culture Desk — Temple design, proportional systems, building materials, and the archaeology of sacred precincts.
- Earth Science Desk — The geology, climate, and atmospheric physics of Mount Olympus and the wider Greek landscape.
- Editorial Standards Desk — Source verification, fact-checking, corrections, and site-wide updates. This desk owns the final text.
Each desk reviews the work of the others before publication. An article on Zeus and lightning, for example, passes through both the Myth & Texts Desk and the Earth Science Desk before the Editorial Standards Desk signs it off.
Project history
Olympus Atlas launched in August 2026 as a publication designed to test a new model of editorial accountability: transparent sourcing, dated reviews, and institutional rather than personal attribution. The project is self-funded and carries no advertising.
While the site is a publication, the research behind it is real. Our reference desk links to UNESCO, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NOAA, the Perseus Digital Library, and the British Museum — institutions whose records readers can open and verify for themselves.
